Coworking spaces balance flexibility, comfort, and creativity, allowing people to come together in an environment that is both inviting and productive. The existing building was an old hardware store that was a staple in the community. This felt like a perfect place to welcome a new life that celebrates its history while supporting a new connection back to the community.

Occupying an old hardware store meant celebrating the raw character of the existing building. Exposed brick walls, exposed joists, and tin ceilings develop an atmosphere that feels authentic and grounded while large windows flood the communal spaces with natural light. The industrial elements are softened with warm lighting and tactile materials to establish a balance between raw character and comfort. Furniture and millwork is used to guide the arrangement of spaces. This creates a fluid organization that can accommodate whatever the day brings.

The goal of the project was to develop an environment that feels both flexible and intentional with opportunities to support a wide range of working styles throughout the day. A mixture of small and large offices compliment the shared amenities like kitchens, lounges, and outdoor space - providing a social layer that keeps the environment energized. These spaces support modern work habits by blending focus, connection, and ease into one cohesive setting with an inherent flexibility for its users to move between collaboration and concentration as they need.

Good coworking design strikes a balance between structure and spontaneity, making spaces feel alive, supportive, and easy to feel at home. By mixing the utilitarian elements of hardware stores with a modern approach to a workplace, we create a space that feels both creative and familiar. It celebrates a new interaction between the old and new that can adapt as time goes on.
