The Timber Lane House is a holiday home designed as a private compound for rest and relaxation. Located about an hour and a half from Chicago the home was designed to be a place where a family can escape from the stresses of daily life in the city and get some quality time on the shore of Lake Michigan.
The layout of the building delivers a separate private wing for the primary users. This separation of function also creates a well-guarded rear yard and pool. The arrangement of the building elements shields the outdoor spaces from its surrounding neighbors and allows the inhabitants space to enjoy each other’s company in privacy.
The house was designed and built in collaboration with a local developer to build a unique vacation home as a speculative development. The home’s proximity to Lake Michigan and the town of New Buffalo combined with the unique design make for an attractive property to purchase for would-be vacationers.
Since the development of this property, the building has changed hands a few times, each time gaining new layers as each set of owners makes it their own. This is a testament to the evolving nature of architecture and a good reminder that the buildings we design have a life long after our involvement and continue to mature over time.
