On the boards
Designed in collaboration with a local developer, this striking three-flat design brings a modern approach to this small multifamily typology prevalent in Chicago.
The building’s simple massing is accentuated by carefully designed masonry detailing which gives an understated sophistication to the facade. Special attention was paid to layout the building perfectly with the brick pattern while subtle manipulations of the materials give visual interest.
The interior provides spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment layouts for the residents. The exposed cross laminated timber floor plates provide warmth to the interior while limiting sound transmission between units. A heated polished concrete floor gives a raw quality to the otherwise refined space.
This project is a typology that can be easily deployed throughout the city of Chicago. The first of these will begin construction in 2025/26 and with the potential to build many more into the future.
